Way back to beginning of our journey to live with less… my husband was already doing it. So when the idea came up he was way on board with it before I was. Now not every spouse is.

Minimal living tip Tuesday's topic is our spouse and minimalism and a bit about that journey. It certainly looks different for each couple, but for us. My Zach to my Kelly #savedbythebell..My hubby has mostly been on board. Or more so, "Kelly is into another thing and I'll support her." ha. But this time, it has stuck for years. He's not into reading about the method or diving into KonMari, but he did half watch The Minimalism documentary with me. My hubby grew up in a pretty tidy home as did I, so we both enjoy our home, our schedules being tidy and keeping on top of getting the clutter out of the house. The places where we differ are purchases. We see things differently as in what's a need or want. So that is something we have to navigate together here and there. If you are on this minimal journey too with a loved one, I've found the most helpful thing that I've learned is PERSPECTIVE. And that it's not about convincing others of our way, but to aknowledge that everyone has a different perspective (and that's even for within minimalism). Because it looks different for every person, every situation. I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life. “Minimalism” and spouses: Was my husband, Chris, on board with all of my decluttering shenanigans, at first? 🤔 Well, the short answer is: no. 😂 He was more annoyed than anything, wondering why I was getting rid of good stuff, he thought I was wasting, he’d say things like, “I’m not buying that again if we need it.” 🙄 I explained to him WHY I was getting rid of so much. He didn’t really understand, but as time went on, he saw the benefits of LESS around the house. Eventually, our surroundings did the explaining, and I didn’t have to… At first, I was all about nagging him to declutter his never-ending amount of clothes from his closet, and he resisted. Big time! I soon learned that I needed to let him decide when and what HE chooses to keep. And when we moved last year, he got rid of a ton of stuff. WILLINGLY. RESPECT your spouse's boundaries and teach them instead of forcing them. Chris is by nature, the complete opposite of a “minimalist.” To be honest, he’d be a hoarder if I allowed it. 😬😂 I have a couple of stories I’ll share today on stories about Chris and me at the beginning of this journey! Check it out, and the other ladies' stories about minimalism and spouses! 🧡 I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life. is your husband a minimalist? i love this question. my answer in short👉🏼 maximalist in experiences + travel, minimal-ish in stuff. i’ve always been a self professed minimalist. i naturally gravitate toward less. michael on the other hand is okay w/ a little more stuff, hangs onto books that haven’t been read, loves his shoes + coats (fun fact: he owns more 👟🧥 than me!). for the most part, i’m lucky that we’re mostly likeminded. but…what if your spouse just isn’t on the same page? 〰️ FIRSTLY, don’t be discouraged. i know that can be extremely difficult. 〰️ SECONDLY, learn from me—do NOT force your perspective + give away your husband’s (or anyone else you live with) stuff. instead— 〰️ approach the subject w/ mutual respect 〰️ focus on the positives of what this lifestyle provides 〰️ lead by example – when others see the positive results it’s contagious. 〰️ be patient, have grace – none of us arrive overnight. the longer i walk this minimalist journey, the more i learn to focus on what i can control (myself) + ease up on the rest. - i have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life. have a tip to share about today's topic too? 🌿share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal and we'll reshare to our stories. 🌿p.s. want to be a guest admin? send @eastcoastkelly a DM. admins: @eastcoastkelly @mama_bear_wooten @minimalmindfulmama @theminimalistmethod @slowsimplehappy @fairley.simple.life . . . . #minimalistfamily #simplelife #minimalistmom #lessstuffmorelife #cleartheclutter #minimalish #intentionalism #minimalisthome #decluttering #livewithless #minimalistliving #minimalistfamily #minimalismwithkids #livesimply #clutterfreewithkids #simpleliving #minimalistmama #bemorewithless #getorganized #livesimply #intentionalliving #declutteryourlife #mindful
