Where and how to start decluttering. ⁣⁣⁣ Oof. There are so many takes on this and pieces of advice, so I'm going to leave you mine, of course. 😉 Looking back, I plowed through the big declutter when everything clicked for me. I was just anxious to get it done. But looking back, I'd probably tell myself to slowww down. But that's just for me. Maybe you will do well on decluttering as fast as humanly possible, right?! So yes, read the advice, learn the method, watch the YouTube. But in the end, listen to yourself. Honour the way that you work and thrive. Pull from different methods, ideas, advice if that's working for you. There's really no "right" or "wrong" way to start decluttering. But, I will tell you this because I've seen it to be true 100% of the time:⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ You will feel soooo good once it's all done. 👏Making space for the new you! PS I dove in deeper on this topic on my blog today as well – you can find that on my website's home page (link in bio). How do I start decluttering? You just got to start. Start small. Give yourself 15 minutes.⏲ . I recommend starting in the bathroom. It’s the place that will make a big difference and help you feel motivated to keep going!🧺 . Here are some bathroom tips: •Start in a drawer or cabinet.✔️ •Go through and toss all that expired makeup and lotion bottles you don’t use. If you haven’t used it in 6 months, or let’s be real, during this quarantine, you’re probably not going to use it. Looking at you beauty samples! Check makeup expiration dates. (Mascara is only good for 2-3 months!) Bye bye duplicates. 👋 •Ask these questions: Do I use this? Do I like this? Do I need this? •Recycle the plastic! Consider switching to shampoo bars.🧼 •Use up what you have first before buying any new products. #useitorloseitmethod 💚 •KISS! Keep It Super Simple! •Try to keep your counters clear. ✔️ . You gotta stop second guessing yourself! So trust your gut – take the plunge – and believe in your decisions. You’ll find that once you get started you’ll be making decisions more easily over time.💪 . “But, where do I start?” It’s the most common question when wanting to declutter your home! And I say start where you are with what you have! And things that are the least sentimental are probably products. ⁣ ⁣ Products can overwhelm our cabinets and bathrooms without even realizing it! Lotions, soaps, shampoos, styling products, cleaning products, so many products half empty. Start there!⁣ ⁣ Decide what you want to use and then use it. Or lose it! An join me in the #useitorloseitmethod and clear the product clutter. It’s a great place to start! There is no need to have it if you don’t like it or use it! ⁣ ⁣ I’ll chat more about this in stories today if my kids allow it. 🙄😂🙏🏻 Photo: @honest ⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ , and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? People ask me all for time where and how to start decluttering. There are hundreds of different methods, but in my experience going from the easiest room to the hardest is most beneficial. When you start in the easiest room first it allows you to build momentum before you get to the really hard stuff. Look at each room and ask yourself if there is any furniture you don’t want or use in this space. If so, let that be the first thing you declutter. It’ll immediately open up the space. Then evaluate everything else. When going through things ask yourself “Does this serve a purpose in this room? Is this beneficial? Do I use this item? Have I used this item In the last 3 months? Do I like this item?” If no, consider donating it. Once you have completely decluttered the space you started in, move on to the next. You’ll love the progress and be motivated to continue. If you you start in the hardest space first you might be tempted to give up. The easiest space for me to declutter was my living room 😍 I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? Decluttering and simplifying an area can sometimes feel overwhelming, believe me i have been there. So to make it more peaceful and easy on yourself here are some things i feel really help to make the process so much smoother 1. PLAN PLAN PLAN 2. WRITE WRITE WRITE thats right plan out an area you want to tackle by writing out exactly how you envision this area to look start to write out what you want gone and as you take those items away cross them off the list. and remember as Marie Konmari would say “ if it doesn’t bring you joy, get rid of it” when you see the things getting crossed off your list it brings you so much satisfaction once your done don’t forget to give yourself a pat on the back oh and never place and item in that area that doesn’t belong there again. . . ⁣⁣I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? When it comes to decluttering there are many areas that are recommended to start at. But for me personally I always find it easier to start at my most time consuming area.⠀ _⠀ I figured if I tackled that first it would cut out extra time in my day and make room for me to take on the other areas on my list.⠀ _⠀ So as a family of 6… our biggest area is always clothes. Wash, dry, fold, put away and then repeat that every single day!⠀ _⠀ Before I decluttered our clothes it would take me so much time to do the simple task of laundry. I’d get backed up and it would take days to catch back up!⠀ _⠀ So I decided I need to end this rerun of laundry mountains before I could start anywhere else. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not always on top of it. Like during corona… I dropped the laundry ball and bad.⠀ _⠀ But it won’t take me near as long to catch back up like it did years ago.⠀ _⠀ So my tip for you when starting your decluttering journey is to pick an area that takes the most time away from your day. Whether it is laundry or something else. You got this!⠀ _⠀ I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⠀ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⠀ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣⠀ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? Where to start decluttering?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ It sounds nice in concept: “I’m going to declutter my home!” And then you open your garage door or walk into your kitchen and instantly feel overwhelmed. Don’t walk away!⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ “Do you know the best way to eat an elephant?…One bite at a time”. ⁣⁣- @brookemcalary⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🐘 START SMALL 🐘 ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Pick one drawer, one box, one shelf, one item. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Then take one bite at a time, a little each day, even if it’s only 1 item. Focus on consistency over intensity.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Swipe ➡️ to see the “before” photo of our *junk drawer* contents when I first started decluttering in 2017. I don’t even know how it all fit! We use this drawer every day, so imagine the impact that it has to see it clear and tidy. I don’t think we can call it a “junk” drawer anymore.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ Where can you start decluttering? Decluttering, like most things in life, the hardest part is getting started. I have noticed that starting with the space that bothers me the most has been my motivation to decluttering the rest of my home. We craft hard and I’ve been cooking at home a lot these days so right now keeping these areas decluttered and organized make the process of crafting/ cooking easier for me. ⁣ ⁣ I don’t try to do too much, too fast and so I don’t end up feeling burnt out. Instead, I try breaking my decluttering jobs down into smaller projects. I tackle one drawer, one shelf or one area at a time. If I feel like I can keep going I do. This has been the way I minimize and stay clutter free. ⁣ ⁣ “For every minute spent in organizing, an hour is earned,” –Benjamin Franklin.⁣ ⁣ ⁣⁣I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin?
