Homemade Cookies In a Jar That Make The Perfect Gift

It’s cookie and gift giving season. So I thought a homemade recipe for cookies was needed. And one that you don’t have to bake yourself the night before gifting. I wanted to share a recipe where you do all the work besides the baking. Them package them up cute (if you want) and gift with minimal instructions for the person your gifting too.

These are perfect for all your cookie lovers. Your cookie lovers who aren’t all about the entire process but love homemade cookies. And anyone you think will love this as a gift.

It’s super easy to make since your not actually baking them. And honestly I think everyone will love them! They are so delicious and are even better when fresh out of the oven. So make sure to make a bath for yourself. Even Santa himself would love these to be set out for him.

The fun ingredients part can be easily mixed and mingled to fit the person your gifting and for any occasion. I even made a free printable label that you can find out how to download below. It’s not holiday themed so you can use it for gifting any time of the year.

So onto that super yummy cookie recipe that makes the perfect gift for anyone on your list.

Items Needed : (for 1 mason jar)

  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup brown sugar (can do 1/2 light + 12 dark)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 – 24oz mason jar with lid (wife mouth ones are easier to fill)
  • Fun ingredients (m&ms, White or chocolate chips)
  • Optional: Decorated twine
  • Optional: paper & printer for decorating.

How to layer your jar:

  • Layer 1: flour
  • Layer 2: Brown sugar 1/2 cup
  • Layer 3: Salt, baking powder, baking soda
  • Layer 4: Brown sugar 1/2 cup
  • Layer 5: Sugar
  • Layer 6: Fun ingredients (fill to the top)

*As you layer each section be sure to use a spoon to pack it down. You want to make sure nothing budges and ever bring fits snug. You can focus on a clean line but I love the imperfection and homemade look of a staggered line. So do what works for you and your creative juices.

Optional: Decorate your jar! I used decorated twine I had on hand and my free printable label (you can find where to download it at the bottom of this post)

Baking Instructions For Recipient:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees

2. Mix your wet ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 12 tbsp of melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

3. Mix in dry ingredients from jar. Mix everything up throughly. Make sure there aren’t any clumps (especially the brown sugar).

4. Shape into 1” or 1.5” balls and place about 2” apart on an ungreased cookie sheet or parchment paper.

5. Bake 12-17 minutes or until golden and still soft. (You don’t want to over cook them and they will remain to cook as they cool)

Enjoy after they cool or while warm!
