So today we are sharing about the hardest areas for us to minimize. And for me, right now. It's those donation bags sitting in our basement. lol. They need to go, but are parked for who knows how long. HELP! I'm twitching. Ok, jokes aside. I'm pretty ruthless now with minimizing for our family, but! I'd like to point out that there *are* six of us. I'm pretty busy because I work from home and homeschool (not just covid homeschooling), so even though I'm ruthless with minimizing, that doesn't mean I'm on top of it at all times. ⁣ ⁣ If you are new to minimizing or just well on the way, but have a ways to go, know that: Minimizing is a unique journey to each person, to each family. And there's really no right or wrong way to go about it. Take your time, or don't. Minimizing. Read tips, read methods. But in the end – you have to do what's best for you. On your own time. And terms! And…sorry, dear lovely bags of donation goodies, you must endure my basement for a while longer. Make room for more.⁣ ⁣⁣ I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? Happy Tuesday! ⁣ ⁣ The hardest thing to minimalize for me on this journey to simple living has been baby pictures of my kids and basically any keepsake or milestone they have embarked. I recently went through and decluttered some of the things from our move, but I still have a couple of boxes. Some people told me to scan them in and throw them away,.. oooh I’m not sure I’m ready to do that. My plan is create a memory box for each child.⁣ ⁣ It’s okay on this journey to not do it like every one else, but to find your beat. I don’t have every rattle or bib, but I do hold on to those things that mean the most to me ! ❤️⁣ ⁣⁣ I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? So today we are sharing the hardest parts to minimize. If I’m being honest, the hardest part of my home to minimize has been products. Between all the skincare, hair care, dental hygiene etc I feel like I’ve always been on an endless pursuit to find the perfect products. News flash- there are no perfect products! I am vowing to use whats works for me and my family and ignore the voice in my head that tells me to try every new skincare product someone I know raves about. Also, use up what you have completely before purchasing something else. Those almost empty bottles that don’t get used accumulate to be clutter. 🖤⁣ ⁣⁣ I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? The hardest thing for me to declutter in my life are photos! I have thousands on computer and on my phone. 📸📸📸⁣ ⁣ As a photographer, I take thousands of photos per year! Or day. 🤪 And they are all precious to me, until a few years ago when I started studying more about videography… ⁣ ⁣ When you shoot video, you really want to try to video the most storytelling parts of your day. We can’t video all day, or it would take up all the space in our phones instantly. So, I started thinking about what I photographed with that same mentality. ⁣ ⁣ What’s most important? If my kids are at the park, I watch them and wait for the part that makes me want to remember the most, then I take a photo of THAT only. Then put my phone away. It helps us to stay in the moment more, too! 🧡⁣ And how cute is my little second shooter?! 😍📸 ⁣⁣ I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? It’s Tuesday! So that means it’s time for a minimal living tip. _ Before kids I was the one who felt bad getting rid photos. Digital or prints. So I kept them. All of them. _ After kids it got worse! I’m a sentimental person so it’s hard for me to “trash” a photo because of quality or repeats. Every photo has a slight difference in moment or facial expression. It’s a snapshot of a memory. And I’m a give me all the memories and moments and let me keep them forever. _ So my tip to you… if your like me. Is to keep them organized. Almost every smartphone has the option to create albums. So use that option! Organize your photos like you organize your pajama drawer! _ I’ve gotten myself into the habit of favoriting all my favorites from a specific moment and then uploading them into my favorite editing app. And then in my app I organize all my photos into folders then albums. _ Each month I create a new folder and title it the month and year. And then inside that folder I make a “photos” album for everyday photos and then an album for special occasions. For instance April had Easter. So in my April 2020 folder I created an Easter album. That holds all my favorite photos from that holiday. _ I mean if your going to “hoard” photos like I do then you might as well have a plan about it! For sanity’s sake! _ I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣_ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? What is the hardest area to minimize when decluttering your home?⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ Hands down my answer is: sentimental items. Photos, keepsakes, achievements, letters, kids’ art projects, trophies, stuffed animals, belongings of those who’ve passed on. For me, this category also includes baby clothes. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ We have a 3 year old daughter. She’s our only child, and may very well be our only child…ever. There’s so much emotion wrapped up in this and, as a result, in her things.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ It only seems practical to hold on to all of her clothes “just in case”…in case we do have another child, that happens to be a girl who also fits into the same sizes in the same seasons. (What are the odds of that?) But then there’s the whole other layer of: How do we cherish every last piece of her existence since she is our only child?⁣ ⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ Here’s where my tip for minimizing sentimental items comes in. ⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣ TIP: The joy is in the memory, not the object itself.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 1️⃣Before you even open the storage bins to declutter, make a list (off the top of your head) of the very special items that you think you’d like hold onto long-term. If you can’t think of it, it may not be as important to keep as you thought.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣Keep your absolute favorites that you (or your kids) will appreciate seeing years down the road.⁣⁣⁣ ⁣ 3️⃣Take it a step further and find a way to display your sentimental items rather than tucking them away in dusty storage. Use the fine china, hang the artwork, display the award, wear your grandmother’s necklace. ⁣⁣ I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin? 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙷𝚊𝚛𝚍𝚎𝚜𝚝 𝙰𝚛𝚎𝚊 𝚝𝚘 𝙼𝚒𝚗𝚒𝚖𝚒𝚣𝚎 What is that space for you? For me, it's the playroom 💯 There are always so many toys, pieces of furniture and just "things" to go through…and doesn't it always seem like you pare it down and then there is a slow of things again!? Here's how I've been tackling the playroom – #tiptuesday – and it's actually been working! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1️⃣ Get EVERYTHING other than furniture to the same location. Think KonMari. Pile it all up in one place to sort through. 2️⃣ Sort into "Keep," "Store for Rotation," "Donate," & "Sell." Sometimes I have to trash a few broken things too. Also, duplicates…get rid of them! 3️⃣ Only keep out what can be displayed/stored individually. Getting rid of bins and toy boxes of miscellaneous toys has massively cut down on the dumping and clean up time here. We store like things together. Ex. 1 bin for Legos, another bin for magnetic tiles, etc. 4️⃣ Actually ditch the things in your Sell, Donate & Toss piles. Get it out of the house – or at least where it's out of sight! 5️⃣ Get your mindset right! Know that the kids will still spread things out BUT with designated spots you can teach them each item has a home & clean up will be much easier with less out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ SWIPE ▶ to see how this has worked for me! ⁣ I have joined with some of my minimal living friends to share some of our best tips to live a more simple, minimal life.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣Have a tip to share about today's topic too? ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ 🌿Share your tip using the hashtag #tipsforlivingminimal⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ and we'll reshare to our stories. ⁣ 🌿PS want to be a guest admin?
