5 Tips to Start Living Simply, Intentionally And Clutter Free In Your Motherhood Journey

Happy get intentional day babes!

So if you’ve been following me on my Instagram stories then you have probably seen me share about how I’m decluttering our home. Little by little.

Now you might think, WHY?

Well if I’m being honest… I don’t like to clean. Like nothing! But I don’t like messes either. Messes actually stress me out. So when I clean I’m stress cleaning and then I’m worn out! No bueno for this pregnant mom who wakes up worn out! Growing a 4th child while caring for a kid and two toddlers is no joke!

What I do like though is being intentional, making memories and spending time with my family. The more I have of that the more fulfilled I am.

I want to simplify my life. I want to live a life I love, not a life I clean up after. I’m tired of being tired, overwhelmed and cluttered by the things that we own.

The first step to getting what you want is having the courage to get rid of what you don’t

I’m ready to own my time!

So, I’m a really bad impulse shopper. I see something I like so I just get it. I don’t think about all the logistics of it and the time it will consume. But not anymore. I’m decluttering my mind and way of approaching all the things. Truth is whatever it is I don’t need it. My family doesn’t need and our home definitely doesn’t need it.

Now I’m no pro at decluttering or minimalism but what I have learned is helping me to take back my time. To help me own it.

I’d rather have extra space and extra time than extra stuff

And I want to share that with you. What I’m doing, what I’ve learned and my journey. Whats working for this mom!

Below you will find some tips that I found useful and that have helped me begin my journey.

Mindset

Before you can start anything you have to change your mindset. You have to want the change. You have to decide that your ready to stop cleaning and start living. Your ready to start making memories with your kids instead of constantly having to tell them to clean up.

Have a vision

Besides your mindset I’d say this is the most important part of anything you do. Having an end goal for how you want your home to feel, your family to interact and your life to be is was is going to keep you motivated. Each section you declutter is going to slowly free you and your family.

Stop Shopping

You can’t declutter if your still continuing to bring in things. Now not groceries or household items or course. This is actually a good time to do a no spend month. Because you are challenging yourself to not go spend on unnecessary things.

Choose your starting zone

Where you start is really up to you. You can start at the “basic” start up place which is the bathroom or you can go with Marie Kondo and tackle clothes first. I personally did my kids clothes, then my clothes and then started in the bathroom. For me laundry is the most time consuming. So I wanted to eliminate some of it so I could have more time to work on the areas I really needed too. Plus I happen to have a mountain of laundry I needed to do. As far as the bathroom I picked it because it fell in line with my cleaning routine and the day I started.

If you need a mom friendly cleaning routine then check mine out here! I “zone” clean and try to do one load of laundry a day. My life got so much easier when I started doing it this was.

Start!

I’m sure there’s a million things you can read or print out about starting but really it’s as simple as the above. Know what you want, change your mindset, vision your end result, stop shopping, choosing your starting point and Start! The biggest part about a decluttering and minimalist journey is to not over complicate it!
